Behind the stage before a pay begins ( a memory of the stage in poster colors from the childhood centered around the Indian classical dance drama tradition of the South)

The stage is made ready before the nights of play and the backstage is equipped well before the actors are present over there….finally the audience are getting ready before the stage before the play starts on the stage.
I remember the performers at the back stage  whowere getting busy with their final touch ups before the play opens up on the foreground during my childhood and attempted it in poster colors in my youth out of the memory and linked it with the photographs taken in my manual SLR cameras on the stagesin live with the performers in the Indian classical dance drama depicting the legends and myths. That was an experience unveiling the secrets around the past life and the dense nights telling the story of some magics practiced by the mythical mountain dwellers in the Eastern Ghats under the starry sky in the chilling festival summers around the temples of India in the southern west region here…

The play is on the stage because of the audience awaiting the performance before the foreground.

Life of the age-old mountains recreates a charming play on the stage of classicism( a magician of the ancient hills on the stage at the court of the king in a legend)

A story is retold well from the songs of the mountains…the people from the heights are invited to the courts of the legends to perform miraculous deeds of magic and art; rituals were also derived out of their activities in the daily business of the mountains and forests. So the performances on the stages are rich with these age old arts of cliffs and the plays are filled up with the romantic and charming rituals that generate curiosity of the viewers  in the night lamps and torches on the stage of classicism !!

A brave hunter in love with a court beauty deserted in the wilderness ( a play depicting the love story of a king from the legends )

The string of love and intimacy born out of the density of forests are very well laid out in the mythological stories wherein the hunters behaving as ardent lovers of sophisticated beauties deserted from the royal courts and who ignore their status as forest dwellers and yearn for such love unto their end  ; the struggle for love is more intensified than the struggle for life in such stories of the hillsides and forests..!! In the dense nights and dawns of the thick forests ,hunters save their loves  from the wild animals by arms and later on  sacrifice themselves before their loves invented in the forests !!

Finally, the Lord of the mountains on the stage with his charming hands and halos

All the struggles getting tensed around these themes of love behind and beyond the courts and mountains are relieved by the magical hands of the Lord who rules all over the mountain ranges by the end of the middle of the play in the presence of his magical radiance and the rushes of light haloing by the very presence of himself !!

Reminiscent of a fruitful experience in Black and White photography with pure black and white films by the last of 19thcentury

  • Early midsummers proved quite fruitful in terms of performances during the nights in temples. Later on I have tried to capture them in films using my Minolta7SII 40mm Compact Camera. My pioneering attempts were done in black and white films in pure manual photographic techniques. so the efforts led me to new findings with sound lessons in manual focusing and lighting effects in night photography under no external light accessories but a single flash unit attached to the hot shoe.
  • Besides being a matter of curiosity, nights provided a background for  fascinating images a more solid form of visual impact and imaginative value. While taking the shots of performers in grant and elaborate costumes and make ups in their vibrant moves of steps and gestures, it was somewhat possible to capture that spirit of dance in the fantastic element of night with the black and white films without much difficulty of instantaneous nature of live shooting.
  • still worthy to be used for enduring results in good quality images

A latest profile of the old manual camera,Minolta7SII(hi-matic) , a fruitful photographic experience

The vibrant moves of the performers were captured in black and white films in my Minolta7SII 40mm camera during the early 2000s

Night performances were possible to be caught up with the handy Minolta 7SII( Hi-matic) in the rigorous movement and lights on the stage. It was convenient to make it more or less stable under the luminous lights and darkness of the night as the backdrop for the swift dancing poses. In such a mode of moment Minolta provided a nice support for my first adventuring spirit of capturing the stage movers in the night light spotted thereon. I conclude it as a golden venture in my enterprise as a beginner in the end of 19th century; think all related to that experience ‘fruitful’ and the equipment of Minolta quite ‘useful’.
