The King disguised as a Slave or someone lost in Solitude;   2 comments

The legend said so :

The king who was forced to quit the kingdom had found his shelter in the distant forests along with his beloved queen.Both of them found it strange and hard to survive upon there as they had never been exposed to such an experience in their royal life so far.Anyhow, they had managed to spend their days in the wild by backing up each other with the affection and affinity igniting inside them towards each other everyday !! Even though, the king felt it quite terrible to see his most beloved and pretty one undergoing the harshness of the wilderness; so he made a plan to save her from those torments by giving up her alone in the forest and thus deserting her over there  so that she would be able to reach her relations in the neighboring courts at the easiest reaches.Thus, during a night he left his queen silently while she was strenuously sleeping on his lap….!!

Thereafter, the king started his lone journey into the denser forests ahead on which he had found a huge serpent amidst the wild fire, crying out for help..;with great effort, the king rescued the snake out of the fire and soon after got its bites on his body that had transformed him into a darkest man unrecognisable to anyone who had known him before…! While asking about this terrible deed of transformation and ingratitude,he was consoled by the serpent that he would be able to retrieve his original figure whenever necessary by putting himself on a piece of cloth given by the serpent and  suddenly the serpent left the place after giving the king a piece of cloth as told so as to retrieve his charms as before whenever necessary.

The King disguised as a man of labor (the character incarnation in dark shades in the classical dance drama of Kathakali deriving the intense spirits of the legendary character in ‘ Mahabharatha’ )

The king thus disguised as a slave resorted into another kingdom as a stableman and started his life in another class of labor…

The king elopes from his queen ( the character before transformation , in red and whites)

The Serpent incarnation

The incidents occurred all the way down to the stables ,especially the unprecedented departing from his queen had collapsed the spirits of the man within the king severely and most often he was found lost on the thoughts of the love who had been deserted in the wilderness !

On one late hours of the night in stable, while sleeping among his co-stablemen, he had awakened abruptly from the sleep by uttering the name of his beloved impatiently and passionately…;then the fellow stablemen who were in half sleeps were also aroused at this and had been heard the names many times over the sleep, they curiously asked him about the woman whose name he had murmured in the sleep.. Finally the disguised king disclosed the anecdote before his co-workers like this:

“There is no need to mention  the man;

It is something  told about  the sorrows of someone ,to somebody,

But a humble man once had a chance to depart from his most beloved one in life,

Among the wilderness of the forest and they had never met again…;

All that had happened and remembered were nothing but the painful experiences

The queen in distress

Recreated and retold by a helpless man in the solitude..”

[The soliloquy of the disguised king and the conversation took place thereafter have had their origin in a play in the Indian classical dance drama tradition of Kathakali and the story had its origin in the legends of  the Indian Epic, ‘Mahabharatha’]

An attendant of the queen finds out the man in disguise at the stable

The play went on..,by the end, the king got back his former figure and he rejoined his queen with more happiness than ever before;

The huge lamp of the traditional classic theater placed in front of the stage was inflamed by the midnight wind from the seasides on the west and the classical drums          reverberated the sighs of the king from stables of solitude,,,;

Beyond the stage and below the hilltop-temple,a huge mass of the age slept under the blanket of darkness, keeping themselves away from that solitude…..!

A Play begins beyond the Stage…!   Leave a comment

Behind the stage before a pay begins ( a memory of the stage in poster colors from the childhood centered around the Indian classical dance drama tradition of the South)

The stage is made ready before the nights of play and the backstage is equipped well before the actors are present over there….finally the audience are getting ready before the stage before the play starts on the stage.
I remember the performers at the back stage  whowere getting busy with their final touch ups before the play opens up on the foreground during my childhood and attempted it in poster colors in my youth out of the memory and linked it with the photographs taken in my manual SLR cameras on the stagesin live with the performers in the Indian classical dance drama depicting the legends and myths.That was an experience unveiling the secrets around the past life and the dense nights telling the story of some magics practiced by the mythical mountain dwellers in the Eastern Ghats under the starry sky in the chilling festival summers around the temples of India in the southern west region here…

The play is on the stage because of the audience awaiting the performance before the foreground.

Life of the age-old mountains recreates a charming play on the stage of classicism( a magician of the ancient hills on the stage at the court of the king in a legend)

A story is retold well from the songs of the mountains…the people from the heights are invited to the courts of the legends to perform miraculous deeds of magic and art; rituals were also derived out of their activities in the daily business of the mountains and forests.So the performances on the stages are rich with these age old arts of cliffs and the plays are filled up with the romantic and charming rituals that generate curiosity of the viewers  in the night lamps and torches on the stage of classicism !!

A brave hunter in love with a court beauty deserted in the wilderness ( a play depicting the love story of a king from the legends )

The string of love and intimacy born out of the density of forests are very well laid out in the mythological stories wherein the hunters behaving as ardent lovers of sophisticated beauties deserted from the royal courts and who ignore their status as forest dwellers and yearn for such love unto their end  ; the struggle for love is more intensified than the struggle for life in such stories of the hillsides and forests..!! In the dense nights and dawns of the thick forests ,hunters save their loves  from the wild animals by arms and later on  sacrifice themselves before their loves invented in the forests !!

Finally, the Lord of the mountains on the stage with his charming hands and halos

All the struggles getting tensed around these themes of love behind and beyond the courts and mountains are relieved by the magical hands of the Lord who rules all over the mountain ranges by the end of the middle of the play in the presence of his magical radiance and the rushes of light haloing by the very presence of himself !!

‘Pridhwi’, A Dedication To The Global Motherhood   Leave a comment

‘PRIDHWI’, the Sanskrit term literally means,’The Earthly Land of The Nature’ (a palette-knife painting in oil I did last year)

The Sanskrit term ‘Pridhwi’ means ‘the mother earth’ or simply ‘the land we stand on…’. So while visualizing the theme on the earth and the overall charm in the form of feminine profoundness, I thought of a title of this kind.This work I did last year in oil on canvas board with palette-knife and found the visual evolutions occurred while realizing the minute forms inside each color forms and formations quite on the way of course …many motifs depicting the view of a sanctuary that would possibly be reachable from a distance ahead and that has been spread everywhere in the proximity of a bird’s eye view.. ; a proximity and reach ability  that children possess towards their mothers….the mother who protects, feeds, caresses , claims and generates love in many streams…So I hope this work of mine shall do something pleasing with the mother nature as such and the whole human motherhood as well ….!!

Once Upon A Time, On A Mountain Region..   Leave a comment

The story is about a mountain region and the time was a summer …and it goes on like this:The mountain ranges that laid out in the outskirts of a village inhibited by a group of cattle-people. There broke out a summer at that time and it grew severe!The cattle and men suffered so strenuously due to the  lack of water that they decided to leave the place with the cattle.Thus, they started to move away from that region of mountains ,by the end of a dusk!!

By the midnight,all of them reached the top of  the mountains  and most of them got tired due to their long truck and sat here and there upon the top and fell on sleeping slowly…all on a sudden, a powerful wind blown out over the mountains ,clouds surrounded the mountains and the rain started pouring heavily all over the valleys…

The next day, villagers came down to the valleys and that night, it is told that many men had a dream of  strong ,black wind hugging the upper tops of the mountains!!

my ‘Wind Over The Mountains’ in oil on canvas which I did last years

The dream came to me last year beginning so that I attempted my Wind Over The Mountains  on canvas…. like this :
